What space calls to you when your heart needs moments to reconnect and meditatively move, create? Personally, if it’s just past 6am and freezing cold, it’s most definitely my kitchen. At times the couch and a book or the front porch, but much of the time it’s my kitchen. A place where my creativity, intuition and knowledge collide.
Feeling warm, confident and internally connected after my personal morning yoga practice I turned on my phone and connected some dots. This dot-dot-dot left me feeling cold, unworthy and alone, but not for too long. I knew what I needed and I moved in that direction - the kitchen.
I pulled fresh ginger and garlic, green onions and a lime from the crisper. Next, turmeric, peppercorns and veggie broth from the pantry. If we listen, our body will speak to us. I peeled and grated, chopped and stirred, while mixing and breathing. I allowed the broth to simmer for over an hour, stirring and sitting on the counter sipping lemon water.
Instead of allowing 5 minutes of my morning to shift the course of my day, like the soup, simmering inside all day, I said no. I said no to the situation and said yes to myself. I acted in a way which was honoring of my mind, body and spirit. As a result, our family will sit down to a nourishing meal tonight made with love, pause and breath. Mmmmmm!
This month instead of resolutions, how ‘bout a commitment to internal awareness. Pausing in a moment and not reacting, in a sort of way, withdrawing. In yoga we call this pratyahara. When you make the choice and move in this direction you honor yourself and not the dot-dot-dot. Thoughts? xx,
